FOLCAS | Friends of Lewis County Animal Shelter

Arch-Eco is designing new facilities and landscape architecture on a two acre parcel of land for the
staged development of an animal shelter and hospital in Chehalis, WA.  It will feature a no-kill pet
      adoption center

The sustainable design components are meant to minimize impact on the environment, maximize
efficiency of energy use, and create a well-designed ergonomic facility.  We are using sustainable
technologies in the buildings and site infrastructure.

The future site of FOLCAS is an occasional floodplain and the buildings will stand on stilts.
The completed new facilities will be connected by a large partially covered deck with view of the spacious exercise yard adjacent to Salzer Creek.

Some examples of sustainable design the project is incorporating:

     -  Greywater recycling
     -  Rainwater harvesting
     -  Natural lighting
     -  Passive solar heating
     -  Green roof
     -  Storm water filtration system
     -  Indoor/Outdoor Meandering Green Wall

NOTE:  The project will rely heavily on private donations and grants and is looking for
collaborators, donors, and volunteers.  See: Almost Home

Olympia Brewery_ Elevation / Proposed  “green”
condominium adaptive re-use living

This is not connected to the water bottling facility and
the politics of it.  The client asked for a scheme for
commercial retail on two floors and offices on the
remaining with mini storage at the back.

I developed a two story indoor retail mall- like concept
with abundant mixed use opportunities, barrier  free, green
roofscapes (some accessible some not for general use or functions) on several floors.Eventually the client saw a better opportunity to rezone for residential use.  This is a concept that continues to support the idea of PV panels and green roofscapes.

Winter Cities International  Infrastructure Competition_ Drafting Composition/ Analysis of
     micro-climatic shifts with rendered elevation

I turned in a proposal in the category of “infrastructure” at the
International Winter Cities Competition.  The main idea that
gave this an honourable mention was the notion of partially
conditioning public shared space thereby reducing energy
costs and also enabling the use of local native plant materials.
